Court Diversion & Restore Program
The Court Diversion and restore programs will utilize a comprehensive system of evidence-based approaches to implement a 10-session curriculum. Utilizing a culturally responsive strengths-based approach, Family Service Agency will include ways to establish understanding of safety for self and others, community, and risk factors contributing to poor outcomes/decision making.
The goal of the program is to address the reasons for court involvement and reduce/prevent further criminality by emphasizing accountability, personal development, and the opportunity for change.
Mediation
Whether you are going through a divorce, separation, or custody issues, mediation allows parents to make necessary decisions together, with the assistance of a neutral party: a mediator. As a form of dispute resolution, mediation is typically a component of a joint-parenting agreement.
Instead of focusing on the past and creating conflict, mediation helps parents to focus on present concerns, such as their child’s needs. Together through guided cooperation, parents can discuss and determine the outcome of various co-parents issues, including custody or time-sharing.
Mediation allows for parents to resolve issues without involving their child. According to The Family Institute of Northwestern University, children with parents who practice shared parenting do better academically, socially, and psychologically.
Kids First
Family Service Agency of DeKalb County’s Center for Counseling offers many services for families in transition including the Kids First program, divorce mediation, individual, child, couple, and family counseling.
The Kids First Program is a mandated program for divorcing or separating parents. The focus is on explaining the court process, the impact of divorce on children, and aims for mutual child rearing. Any parent who is in the process of divorce or separation can participate even if he/she is not planning divorce.
The goal of the Kids First Program is to provide you with the tools and information to aid you in your job as parents and to assist your children in adjusting to the changes in their family.
